Policies & Terms Of Use
The Notary Atelier Co.
By accessing this website, scheduling an appointment, or engaging The Notary Atelier Co. (“NAC”) for services, you agree to the following Policies & Terms of Use. These terms are intended to ensure clarity, legal compliance, and a professional, well-managed notarial experience.
Appointment-Only Services
The Notary Atelier Co. operates strictly by appointment only. Walk-in services are not available. All appointments must be scheduled in advance through NAC’s official booking system.
Service type, duration, location, and pricing are confirmed at the time of booking. Same-day or expedited requests may be accommodated based on availability but are not guaranteed.
Scope of Notarial Services
The Notary Atelier Co. provides mobile and Remote Online Notarization (RON) services in compliance with Illinois law.
NAC may:
Verify signer identity
Witness signatures
Administer oaths or affirmations when required
Complete the appropriate notarial certificate
NAC does not:
Draft, prepare, revise, or interpret documents
Provide legal advice or legal opinions
Select documents or determine legal sufficiency
Guarantee acceptance by any receiving party
Non-Attorney Disclosure:
The Notary Atelier Co. is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice.
Document Preparation & Legal Referrals
The Notary Atelier Co. does not prepare documents or provide legal guidance.
When a client requires legal advice or document preparation prior to notarization, NAC may, upon request, refer the client to independent attorneys or document preparation services. Any services provided by those third parties are performed under their own licenses, fees, and policies and are entirely separate from NAC’s notarial services.
NAC does not control, supervise, or guarantee the services, timelines, or outcomes of any referred provider.
Identification Requirements
All signers must present valid, current government-issued photo identification that meets Illinois notarial requirements. Names on identification must reasonably match the names on the document.
For Remote Online Notarization, identity verification is completed through the approved platform prior to the session. Failure to pass identity verification will prevent the notarization from proceeding.
Witness Policy
Some documents require one or more witnesses in addition to notarization.
Clients may provide their own witnesses unless otherwise restricted by the receiving authority.
Witnesses must be disinterested parties, not named in the document, and must not receive any benefit from the transaction.
If NAC is requested to provide witnesses, a witness fee applies per witness and must be requested in advance.
Same-day witness requests are not guaranteed.
If witness requirements are not met at the time of the appointment, the notarization may be refused and fees may still apply.
Payment, Deposits & Fees
Payment terms are disclosed at the time of booking and vary by service type.
Some services require payment in full at booking.
High-value or extended services may require a non-refundable deposit applied toward the total fee.
Remaining balances are due as indicated prior to or at the appointment.
Additional fees may apply for:
Additional notarizations
Additional signers
Witness services when supplied by NAC
Travel beyond included mileage
After-hours or expedited requests
Failure to submit required payment may result in cancellation of the appointment.
Travel & Service Area
Mobile services include a defined mileage radius. Travel beyond the included range is subject to additional fees based on distance and travel time and will be disclosed prior to confirmation.
For safety and privacy reasons, NAC does not publish a fixed business address for mobile services.
Grace Period & Wait Time
Appointments include a 15-minute grace period from the scheduled start time.
If the signer(s) are not ready to proceed after the grace period, NAC may charge wait time in increments or may require the appointment to be rescheduled.
If NAC arrives and the appointment cannot proceed due to missing signers, missing ID, incomplete documents, or unmet witness requirements, the appointment may be treated as a no-show and applicable fees will apply.
RON appointments require timely log-in. Failure to join the session within the grace period may result in session termination.
Cancellations, Reschedules & No-Shows
Clients are responsible for managing their appointment time.
Cancellations or reschedules must be made within the timeframe stated at booking.
Late cancellations and no-shows may result in forfeiture of deposits or service fees.
One reschedule may be permitted at NAC’s discretion when sufficient notice is provided.
Weather, safety concerns, or emergencies may require rescheduling. In such cases, NAC will coordinate the next reasonable appointment time.
Client Responsibilities
Clients are responsible for ensuring that appointments can proceed properly.
This includes:
Providing acceptable identification
Ensuring all required signers are present or properly connected
Providing complete documents ready for signing
Confirming signers are willing, aware, and not under duress
Understanding the document being signed
Failure to meet these requirements may result in refusal of service.
Refusal of Service
NAC reserves the right to refuse service when required by law or professional standards, including but not limited to:
Inability to properly identify a signer
Lack of willingness or mental capacity
Suspected coercion or fraud
Incomplete or improper documents
Unsafe or hostile environments
Noncompliance with Illinois notarial requirements
Refusal of service does not constitute breach of contract.
Remote Online Notarization (RON)
RON appointments are conducted through approved platforms and require successful identity verification, credential analysis, and technical readiness.
Sessions are recorded and retained as required by law. NAC is not responsible for third-party platform outages, client connectivity issues, or device failures.
If identity verification fails or the session cannot proceed, rebooking may be required and platform-related fees are non-refundable.
Apostille & Document Handling Services
Apostille facilitation and document handling services are administrative in nature.
NAC prepares, submits, and tracks documents based on information provided by the client. Acceptance, processing times, and final outcomes are determined by government agencies, courts, embassies, or foreign authorities.
Published timelines are estimates only and may change without notice.
Document Acceptance & Corrections
NAC follows written instructions provided by receiving agencies when available. Final acceptance of any document is solely determined by the receiving party.
If a document is rejected due to a notarial error attributable to NAC, the notarization will be corrected at no additional charge. This does not apply to rejections caused by document content, preparation issues, or third-party requirements.
Limitation of Liability
Notarial services confirm identity and execution only. NAC does not guarantee legal effect or acceptance of any document.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, NAC is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of its services.
Website Use & Intellectual Property
All website content, branding, processes, and materials are the property of The Notary Atelier Co. Unauthorized use, reproduction, or misrepresentation is prohibited.
Privacy
